Why Girls Want to Wait

Hi! You might have noticed that surveys are quite popular nowadays. They’re everywhere. Those who carry out surveys usually ask different people what they think about this or that issue, or whether they agree (or not) with a certain opinion, statement, campaign, and so on. Maybe you yourself have taken part in such a survey. I decided to carry out my own survey and today I want to share with you the results.

I carried it out among my friends, male and female, aged from 15 to 23 years old. There was only one question: “Why do you want to remain pure before marriage?” I formed the question in such a way because the question of sexual abstinence was a matter of course for the target group of the survey. The elite! However, as you are well aware, real life does not go as well as one would like. The answers which I got contained some well-known arguments for premarital purity, but there were also some groundbreaking ideas. In this letter, I will present the responses, to which I have added my own brief commentary.

I decided to wait because the most beautiful gift for my spouse is a pure heart and a pure body
Wise words! St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta once said to the youth: “The greatest gift – much greater than money or property – which you can offer on your wedding day, is a clean heart and a pure body.”

First, there is the mutual giving of one’s self that are contained in the words of the wedding vows: “I take you to be my husband. I promise to be true to you in good times and bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life,” and only after is the expression of the same promise in sexual intimacy – the giving of one’s self and the receiving of the gift of self from one’s spouse.

A certain young man wrote: “If I had a diamond ring, let’s say a valuable family heirloom, I wouldn’t give it to a girl I’d only known for three months. I would give it to my wife as a wedding gift. Does that sound sensible? So many girls give their bodies to boys who they barely know instead of saving it for their husbands on their wedding day. They don’t think too much of themselves!” I have to agree. They think very little of themselves.
